SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Some California Democrats need to make school tuition free for in-state college students by taxing very rich residents.

Assemblywoman Susan Talamantes Eggman stated Monday she’s introducing a invoice to create a 1 % tax on Californians incomes greater than $1 million per yr. The Stockton Democrat says the tax would offer sufficient income to make public schools tuition free for residents.

The invoice comes on the heels of a separate proposal by different Meeting Democrats to make school extra reasonably priced. That plan goals to make school debt-free for college kids by serving to cowl non-tuition associated bills and increasing help for group school college students.

AB1356 requires a two-thirds vote within the Legislature as a result of it will create a brand new tax.
